Jones Melling assists Renaker on Manchester’s tallest tower

Deansgate Square

Manchester’s new tallest building has officially topped out – and Jones Melling is proud to have played its part in the record-breaking project.

The 200m South Tower at Renaker’s Deansgate Square development reached its tallest point at 67 stories this week and is now the tallest building outside London.

The residential building now towers over the nearby 47-storey Beetham Tower, which had been the Manchester’s tallest since being built in 2006.

Jones Melling acted as Renaker’s party wall surveyor on the project, advising on boundary issues and protection of adjoining buildings and structures through the Party Wall Act. This includes four adjacent residential and office blocks and the River Medlock and its associated infrastructure.

The firm has also been responsible for the provision of condition surveys of the road network and public realm areas adjoining the site.

Gary Melling, director of Jones Melling, said: “Renaker has transformed not just this site, but the Manchester skyline itself with its ambitious Deansgate Square development.

“Many people won’t realise the shear amount of work that goes on behind the scenes by all manner of property consultants to make large-scale developments like this possible.

“We’re proud to be working on behalf of Renaker, playing our role in making this stunning development a reality and helping Manchester to become a truly global city.”

When finished, Deansgate Square will provide more than 1,500 luxury apartments and exclusive penthouses, a swimming pool, spa, gymnasium, sports hall, indoor tennis court and roof-top terrace.

The South Tower is one of four sleek glazed towers within the wider 2.7-acre site which also includes significant new public realm works and a new riverside plaza. The whole £385m development is due to complete in 2021.

Deansgate Square is one of a number of Renaker projects where Jones Melling has advised on party wall issues. Other developments include Exchange Court, Water Street, Wilburn Basin, Cambridge Street, Greengate and Crown Street.
