Jones Melling backs Fylde Rugby Club in 100th year

We’re proud to announce we’ve renewed our sponsorship of Fylde Rugby Club as it prepares to celebrate its centenary season.

The firm has long associations with the club and our director Gary Melling is also team manager and assistant coach of the under 9s Mini Juniors team.

Gary comments: “We’re proud to be part of the Fylde Rugby Club family. The club provides great opportunities for local youngsters to get into rugby and plays a vital role in the community.

“We’ve been a corporate sponsor for a number of years now, benefitting from pitchside exposure, the great matchday hospitality and being part of Fylde’s business network. We’re looking forward to the coming season and helping the club mark its 100th year.”

Fylde Rugby Club was formed in July 1919 when a group of Manchester-based businessmen met at the Ansdell Institute and tossed a coin to decide whether to start a rugby club or a football club. The club have played at Woodlands Memorial Ground site in Ansdell, Lytham St Annes, since 1920.

Fylde’s two most famous players were Malcom Phillips, who won 25 England caps and went on to become president of the RFU in 2004/05, and Bill Beaumont, who earned 34 England caps including 21 as captain.
